Absorbed Iron

Unabsorbed Iron

Causes Side Effects

Today's iron supplements are very poorly absorbed. Clinical trials demonstrate that only 11% - 28% of the iron you ingest gets absorbed. The remainder stays in the gut - unabsorbed - where it causes side effects and creates free radicals that disperse throughout the body.

Ferravitin™ employs a patented, all natural, peptide delivery system that creates full absorption. This allows for ultra low dosing and gives you the highest efficacy and the fastest results with no side effects whatsoever.

Compare Ferravitin™ Absorption

  • 813% more than ferrous sulfate
  • 471% more than bisglycinate
  • 354% more than heme iron

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Ferravitin Iron dosing so much lower than other irons? +
Ferravitin Iron is far greater absorbing, that’s why 16mg of Ferravitin is equivalent to 144mg of standard iron. Ferravitin absorbs at 92% while standard iron absorbs at only 10%. So, what happens to iron that doesn’t get absorbed? (See question below)
What happens to unabsorbed iron? +
Unabsorbed iron causes GI distress (side effects) that over 70% of individuals experience. Additionally, unabsorbed iron creates free radicals that damage the gut microbiome and disperse throughout the body causing inflammation. At recommended dosing levels, Ferravitin leaves only 1% of iron unabsorbed compared to standard irons. That’s too little to cause side effects in the vast majority of users.
I’ve seen other iron products that claim they are 'high absorbing,' what makes Ferravitin different? +
That claim is very misleading. At 12% absorption, these iron products may be slightly higher than the 10% of standard iron, but that’s still very low. By comparison, Ferravitin’s absorption is 92%, that’s over 800% better absorbed than standard iron supplements.
What is peptide-bonded iron? +
Ferravitin bonds iron to a revolutionary, natural, high absorbing protein peptide. Iron that would normally remain unabsorbed, now rides 'piggy back' on the peptides. Studies show this boosts iron absorption by 813% compared to common iron supplements.
I know other iron products that say 'gentle on the stomach,' how is Ferravitin different? +
That type of iron product should really claim 'slightly less rough on the stomach.' You see, in an attempt to reduce side effects, these iron products have lowered the dosing somewhat, but 90% of the iron still remains unabsorbed. So instead of experiencing 4–6 side effects, you experience 3–5. Some prescription irons such as FeraMAX™, add sugars to help lessen the side effects, but that actually reduces absorption. That’s the reason why you find FeraMAX™ dosing at 150mg, and 90% of the iron still remains unabsorbed. That’s why 60% of individuals who take FeraMAX™ stop because of the side effects. By contrast, high-absorbing Ferravitin, doses at 6mg–16mg and reduces unabsorbed iron by 99%. That’s the real definition of a bona fide, clinically verifiable 'gentle' iron.
How fast will I see results with Ferravitin? +
In human studies with females, our Rapid Restoration product raised ferritin levels by an average of 25.7 ng/ml in just 30 days, bringing levels into a normal range. Just as important, no side effects were reported. See our Shop Products section to see the Ferravitin product that’s right for your needs.
Because I’ve had severe side effects with other iron supplements, would I be more likely to get side effects using Ferravitin Iron? +
Across a large number of users, Ferravitin Iron has been demonstrated to cause no side effects whatsoever. Like you, many of these users had experienced major side effects with other irons. If you’re taking our Rapid Restoration (16mg daily), and feel uncomfortable in any way, you can try to take the product with some food while avoiding foods that can reduce absorption such as dairy, grains, nuts and seeds. Alternatively, we suggest taking our Daily Maintenance (6mg) twice per day, spreading the two doses by roughly 8-12 hours.
I see that the peptide in Ferravitin is obtained from egg yolk, is Ferravitin Iron safe to consume if I’m allergic to eggs? +
The landmark Louisiana State University (LSU) study in 2018 proved that Ferravitin Iron creates 813% higher absorption than ferrous sulfate, a commonly prescribed iron supplement. In a human study with women, Ferravitin increased ferritin levels by an average of 25.7 ng/ml in 30 days.
How much unabsorbed iron causes side effects? +
Generally speaking, at 5mg of unabsorbed iron, mild side effects begin and become increasingly more intense at higher mgs. At 20mg, many people discontinue usage. At the standard 65mg dosing of ferrous sulfate, 57.9mg of iron go unabsorbed. With 30mg dosing of iron bisglycinate, 23.7mg remain unabsorbed. Now see the Ferravitin difference: our Rapid Restoration dose of 16mg leaves only 1.2mg unabsorbed; Daily Maintenance at 6mg leaves barely 0.4mg unabsorbed. Each well below the threshold of side effects in the vast majority of people.
My healthcare provider wants me to have an intravenous dose of iron, can I take Ferravitin Iron instead? +
You should always follow the advice of your healthcare provider. If they are prescribing intravenous iron, that typically means you’re critically low in iron. Because Ferravitin is a relatively new iron innovation, they may not be aware of Ferravitin Iron, and are simply relying on their usual practice. Many women have replaced intravenous iron with Ferravitin Rapid Restoration and found equal, if not slightly better, results. Simply download our Ferravitin Information sheet and show it to your healthcare provider to see if Ferravitin would be a viable alternative. A potential option for you and your healthcare provider would be to start taking our daily maintenance formulation after having a regular transfusion to see if this will maintain your iron levels or at a minimum, significantly decrease the frequency of required intravenous transfusions.
How should I take Ferravitin Iron to get the maximum results? +
Take Ferravitin Iron one hour before, or two hours after, a meal, taking other supplements, or taking medications. Historically, blood ferritin levels of 30ng/ml have been considered as the bottom end of normal, recent science has shown that blood ferritin levels of 75 to 100ng/ml should be the more ideal target for optimal health and wellness. Each Ferravitin capsule contains a scientifically precise ratio of iron to peptides that has been shown to maximize absorption. The peptide in Ferravitin is more than the strongest iron magnet known, it’s a powerful mineral magnet as well. To avoid 'absorption competition,' and receive the maximum iron-restoring benefits, follow the same timing for dosing when you consume: a vitamins & mineral supplement, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, eggs, breads, and meats — as these can contain a wide variety of minerals. Also, the compounds found in coffee are known to interfere with iron absorption and should be avoided within 2 hours of taking the supplement.
Which Ferravitin Iron product is right for me, Rapid Restoration or Daily Maintenance? +
If you’re significantly below your target iron level, start with Rapid Restoration, as it is designed to quickly bring that level back into a healthy range. Once you’ve achieved a healthy iron level, switch to Daily Maintenance, specifically designed to keep it there. If you need help deciding which product is best for you now, check with your healthcare provider. We recommend that everyone get their iron levels tested regularly. Maintaining healthy iron levels lets you feel your best and ensures that you have the energy to enjoy life to its fullest.
How long should I take an iron supplement? +
This varies by individual and should be part of routine testing and a regular discussion with your healthcare provider. We generally only need to replace the iron lost due to various normal bodily functions such as menstruation, sweating and natural shedding of skin and gut cells. For others, the need may be greater to replace iron lost to surgery, injury, blood donation or chronic inflammatory diseases. Everyone's need for iron supplementation is different and can greatly depend on their current iron stores in addition to diet or their ability to absorb iron. Science recommends for most people to maintain a blood ferritin level between 75 and 100ng/ml for optimal health. Once a deficiency in iron stores is corrected, some can stay in this healthy range by diet alone while others require some level of supplementation to replenish lost iron. It is important to note that taking iron supplements above what is needed to replace lost iron can, over time, build up iron levels well beyond the optimal range and lead to potentially serious adverse health effects. Routine testing is the best way to understand your needs and to adapt your use of supplements to meet your needs to maintain your optimal health.

The Dilemma with Today's Iron Supplements

High-dose iron supplements have some benefit, but the large amounts of unabsorbed iron (72%-89%) cause severe side effects and cell damage.

The numerous so-called “gentle” irons offer reduced dosing in an attempt to lessen the side effects, but that comes at the cost of effectiveness.

The Ferravitin Solution

Our innovative, clinically proven, peptide-bonded iron (Ferravitin™) has ultra-low dosing, ultra-high efficacy, virtually no unabsorbed iron, and zero side effects.
